Farming families are the protagonists of the future

Progress Report
Dear Donors,
We are very grateful for your continued support to the farming families, who are the protagonists of their own future.
The families continue to practice what they have learned during the years of direct impact of the Pachamama Raymi methodology; the future of their family and of the planet is in the trees.
In December 2021 we started the geo-referencing of hundreds of hectares, with a view to be incorporated into the Pre-feasibility Study of Carbon Credits.
We visited 9 districts Independencia, Caicay, Ccarhuayo, Ccatcca, Marcapata, Ocongate, Omacha, Pitumarca and Urcos; and finally incorporated 1339 new hectares.
While in the field, when we started the georeferencing activities, we found some forestry practices that need to be improved, such as:
the minimum distance of 3 meters between trees,
the care not to let animals graze in the plantation area;
The steep slopes on which the trees are planted decrease the estimated area.
Due to the altitude, the mortality rate is around 5% per hectare.
Due to the altitude, the best developed species is Pinus radiata.
The communities were very receptive when the georeferencing activities and their usefulness were explained to them.
Georeferencing will allow the farming families to register their trees with the National Forestry Service (SERFOR), a government entity that certifies the legal ownership of their timber and products such as mushrooms, resins, carbon credits, among others.
At the time of representing the data taken in the field, we found situations where the plantations were reflected within other districts, i.e., the boundary records between communities are not clear, and this should be reviewed by the same community members with the competent authorities and finally we identified that some communities have not registered their territory plans in the MINAGRI, so it is difficult to locate them in a plantation plan.
With this work we have expanded the possibilities of the peasant families to be the protagonists of their future.
The next steps require a strong availability of funds to make this a reality.
It will take us 12 months and $152,833 to implement the project.

We hope to continue counting on your support to make this project a reality.
