In Kenya, one million girls miss school each month because they can't afford sanitary pads, while some share used ones or improvise with unhygienic solutions. Our project will provide clean sustainable re-usable sanitary pads to 400 girls living in rural Kenya so they don't have to miss anymore school and have a chance at a brighter future.
65 percent of women and girls in Kenya are unable to afford sanitary pads. In Kenya where a packet of sanitary pads costs $1, and the average family has to manage on less than that per day, poverty means access to sanitary products is near-impossible for the majority of girls, particularly if they have to travel from remote rural areas to buy them in towns.
We will provide 400 girls (aged 10-20) living in the rural region with clean reusable sanitary products. They are clean, comfortable, durable, and easy to manage. We will also provide these girls with educational support so that they can positively manage their menstrual health. This will reduce stigma and help increase their chances of staying in school!
Education is a life-long resource for girls in Kenya. We can reduce the reasons why a girl misses out on school, we can offer her hope for economic security for her future. Reducing the stigma around menstruation is empowering, it allows girls to enjoy womanhood instead of hiding it away. The products are sustainable, each pack lasting 5 years, meaning the girls will not need to worry. The products reduce waste significantly, they are the Eco-friendly option which benefits all of society.
