In the rural village of Chideza, Eastern Province, Zambia, 32-year-old Esnart struggled to make ends meet. As a subsistence farmer, her income was limited and unpredictable. However, in 2022, Esnart's life took a dramatic turn when she became a solar entrepreneur, selling solar lamps to her community.
With training and support from our organization, Esnart learned about the benefits of solar energy and how to market and sell solar lamps. She started with an initial stock of 20 lamps, which she sold to her neighbors and fellow villagers. The response was overwhelming, and soon Esnart was selling lamps to nearby villages as well.
The impact on Esnart's income was remarkable. She increased her monthly earnings by 500%, from ZMW 500 (approximately USD 25) to ZMW 2,500 (approximately USD 125). This significant boost in income enabled Esnart to
Esnart's success also had a ripple effect on her community. She created a network of solar lamp users, who benefited from clean, reliable, and affordable energy. The village, once plagued by darkness and kerosene-fueled lamps, was transformed. Children could study at night, and families could enjoy quality time together.
As Esnart proudly declares, "I'm no longer just a farmer; I'm a solar entrepreneur, empowering my community and illuminating their lives."
