In Kenya, MADRE partner Innovators 4 Climate Action (ICA) focuses on queer climate resilience and supports LGBTQIA+ communities displaced by climate-related disasters, including recent floods in April and May in Nairobi and Kisumu.
MADRE first partnered with ICA for a special research project centered around the specific impacts of the climate crisis on LBQ women in Kenya. Through this project, ICA can inform targeted interventions, policies, and programs promoting the well-being, resilience, and inclusion of LBQ women in climate change efforts. Their comprehensive research demonstrates the impact of climate breakdown on LBQ women and serves as a guide for trainers and community leaders on the intersection of climate justice and LBQ rights.
By understanding and addressing the specific challenges LBQ women face concerning climate change, ICA’s work contributes to their power, promotes inclusivity, and enhances their capacity to address climate change impacts effectively. Their latest report highlights the nuanced intersections of gender, sexual orientation, and climate injustice, read the report here.
Your dedication to uplifting MADRE partners allows us to support initiatives like ICA’s that lead a path toward lasting change in Kenya and worldwide. Thank you for being part of the MADRE community.
