Dear donors,
Greetings from Sukriti Social Foundation.
All parents dream of their children enjoying their childhood. So when a family first learns that their son or daughter will find it difficult or impossible to walk, it is the beginning of a long journey. And not one they had planned. However, with friends such as you, there were some magical moments in place for the twins -Kamesh and Kamlesh. Thank you!
For the parents of the twins, it was the start of a story of many challenges. The joy of the birth of the twins soon turned into countless miseries. The father's meagre income is only sufficient to feed the family and not for the regular travel to the city or get any appliances that the twins need to wear for corrective measures after their surgery. But not giving up, soon after the surgery, they approached us for the appliances.
The rehabilitation after the surgery is crucial for both the parents and the child. Due to ignorance, many parents give up using the appliances. Our clinic at the Children's Hospital, Egmore, plays a curial role in motivating parents to help children use the devices and the importance of regular replacement. We have helped 244 children enjoy their childhood and walk into a brighter future during the past quarter. Even during the lockdown, we connected through video calls to check on the status of the appliances. We even managed to send the replacements through known sources.
Seeing that their sons' feet were progressively becoming the correct position, their parents realized that the treatment was good for their sons.
Most children with disabilities in rural villages are not that lucky; many do not get the treatment; have no education; are discriminated against from birth, and are seen as a financial and societal burden. The parents worry about who will care for them when they die.
The twins are unstoppable now and ready to take on the world. "It is magical to see them running, jumping, and playing, which looked like a faraway dream," say the parents.
Thank you for your continued support. We'd be happy if you could share this note with your family members and friends who might be keen to support children with birth defects.
Gratefully,
Sowmya
