For an individuals struggling to leave a life of human trafficking the financial toll is steep and long term. On a journey to seek justice against a trafficker a case may take two to three years to build. Legal assistance even if probono assistance is available, still may come with fees, cost of transportation and time away from work.
For vicitms of sex trafficking criminal records in multiple cities is common. The time and cost to resolve multiple claims is difficult and can impact an individuals ability to work and obtain housing. Same can be true for survivors who have had their credit or identity compromised by a trafficker.
In international trafficking cases individuals may seek a T-VISA. This VISA requires a medical exam and documentation from a specially accredited clinic and may cost up to $3,000.
