This project will build a fence to protect our water well at Scotty's Rescue Centre. Our water well is crucial in making Scotty's a self-sustainable Rescue Centre for the women and children currently living on the streets of Nairobi. By selling the water, the local rural communities will also have access to this vital resource. The fence is a vital means of protecting the well, building our fence will push us further along our mission of completing Scotty's Rescue Centre.
There are currently up to 60,000 children living on the street in Nairobi, according to the consortium of street children (CSC) Kenya. Everyday, these children face the possibility of jail, starvation, serious health problems, and continual beatings, along with a very serious risk of exploitation. Women are also at high risk of sexual exploitation, and as a result poor sexual & reproductive health.
We are building Scotty's Rescue Centre, a self sustainable place for street women and children. They will receive shelter, education, rehabilitative & counselling services, and basic needs such as food and hygiene products. We have already purchased 1.5 acres of land and have been gifted a water well, this well will be the most sustainable resource at Scotty's. Our next vital step is to build a protective fence around our whole land as to protect it from start animals.
Scotty's will be 100% completely self-sustainable! Selling the water will enable the women and children to be self sustainable, and will also supply clean and safe drinking water to over 5000 local families. We will also rear goats and chickens, which will enable the women and children to make a living by selling goats milk to the local community. Education is also life-long resource, providing this support will empower women and children, enabling them to look forward to a brighter future.
