Dear Amazon Champion,
It is a busy time for us at Finca Las Piedras, our research and education center in the Peruvian Amazon. For second year in a row we received the visit of the members of the Jungle Biomechanics Lab (JBL). JBL is an initiative supported by the National Science Foundation (USA) led by Georgia Tech. This project, which main focus is to promote research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, has a community outreach component. This year, we worked with two schools, one urban and one rural school, as well as with a group of local teachers. Kids and teachers learned about the biomechanics of insects, and many other amazing facts about the forest.
We are always very excited to organize activities like this with our local community and to connect the scientific community to the future scientists in our region. We believe in the power of education and cultural exchange as a key element to promote the conservation of the Amazon.
Thank you very much for your constant support!
