Hello PEPY friends and community,
This quarter, we were so excited to welcome 60 students to our Learning Center to give them the opportunity to study Intro to Business, ICT (digital literacy), English language, and soft skills. The team invited the parents as well as the students to the Learning Center orientation events and activities. 22 parents and guardians came, and we believe this is a start of a great tradition of encouraging more inclusivity in our programs, and helping increase the number of parents advocating for education in our communities!
So far, the students have taken their entry exams, visited local universities, and visited vocational training programs to help them consider where they would like to enroll. This year, the team helped them by also organizing times for them to take their entry and placement exams in schools to give them every opportunity possible. Compared to students from previous years, their entry scores are quite low. Since high schools were inaccessible for such extended periods of time, young people's ability to learn English and IT suffered and our team is preparing to work extra hours and provide more mentorship to help the students catch up in their studies.
We hope that by the end of the year, students will achieve an overall exit score of 75% in the Learning Center.
School Exchanges: While it is still difficult to travel, especially in large groups, PEPY team and The American School in Switzerland (TASIS) decided to hold our exchange again virtually. This year, students and teachers from both institutions will pair up for a pen pal exchange. Our students are very interested to learn about Swiss culture and are excited to get the chance to talk to their international peers directly!
Funding Update: We are pleased to share that through your kindness, the Learning Center is nearly funded for 2021-2022. We are waiting to hear back from one more foundation, and, if approved, all funding gaps will be closed. We are in awe that we will be able to close this fundraiser officially and will do everything we can to prevent a similar funding crisis in 2022-2023. We are still so amazed by the support we have received from you; your swift and generous response to PEPY has warmed our hearts and we are so thankful for donors like you, that see the value in our work.
If you want to follow the activities and updates of the Learning Center more closely, we would encourage you to sign up for our newsletter, or follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter! We also have quarterly reports for each program that we would be happy to send you that you can request by emailing us.
For more information, or any questions and concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out anytime.
Thank you again and wishing you well,
