I am sure as donors sometimes one might ask: “Do my donations really matter?” Well to date: 8909 beneficiaries would say they really do.
But, don't let me tell you they do rather listen to the words of our beneficiaries. This report is simply a sharing of the words of two mothers. Their words are repeated time and time again across all the incredible messages I receive from parents whose children are beneficiaries of the Super Sam Hero Vehicle initiative. Let’s hear from two brave mothers:
“My daughter Ashleigh was born in 2015 with a liver disease. She was a month old when she had her first operation. In 2016 the Doctors at Tygerberg hospital told us the operation wasn't successful. In 2017 Ashleigh was vomiting blood and also there were blood in her stools. She was more in ICU then at home. She had several binding scopes to stop the bleeding but it didn't help. Ashleigh had another operation at that time to see if they could stop the bleeding. That also didn't help. But she recovered and in that year we went to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. In 2018 Ashleigh got a liver transplant at Red Cross. She was 2 months in ICU and 6 months in ward E2 we're she recovered. In 2022 the year when COVID started Ashleigh was back in E2 because she needed chemo treatment . Ashleigh is now in grade 1 and she's doing well. She's happy as always and she brings so much joy in our lives. Everything that we went through was like a rollercoaster and we couldn't have done it without you Footprints 4 Sam together with Paedspal (your partner organisation) both helping us in so many ways. Whenever Ashleigh needs to be at Red Cross, Footprints 4 Sam transports us . We are so grateful for the organisation and everyone that's involved. From a grateful family, Thank you so so much”.
And a second Mum:
“I would like to thank you Footprints 4 Sam for changing our lives. My son was diagnosed in 2010 at the age of six weeks and had a kidney transplant in 2019 and ever since we have received transport from Footprints 4 Sam. Walking this journey with my son has been challenging for both of us. People often offer love and support, but life goes on and there are seasons of frustration and feeling alone in this situation. Which is why I am so grateful to Footprints 4 Sam for their dedication and consistency. As a result, my son is always on time for his appointments without his health being compromised. Sometimes, getting into the van is like a breath of fresh air where we can just relax, and a heavy burden is then lifted. Thank you for giving us hope and reminding us that we are not alone”. From Reece and Jemima.
I have no more words for this feedback report – Only my thanks to all of you that make it possible for us to share these kinds of incredible stories of bravery and hope.
Much love and thanks,
Melissa
