Background
Patient Relief Mission exists to improve cancer care and management of female patients and their care-givers by providing hostel accommodation to those who come from rural areas in order to receive their treatment from the Uganda Cancer Institute who otherwise would have no-where to stay in the city while undergoing treatment. Patient Relief Mission was founded in 2016 with the aim of ending the needless suffering for cancer patients in Kampala, Uganda.
Achievement
Our programme is a new venture in Uganda, where there is only one treatment place for cancer that is Uganda Cancer Institute situated in Kampala. Most patients come from as far as 400kms a way for treatment and yet the institute does not provide accommodation in terms of patient wards hence ending up on verandas with no-where to stay while undergoing treatment. All our initiatives run in partnership with the Ministry of Health Uganda and Uganda Cancer Society.
We were able to transport 2400 patients to/from the hospital, provided 3 meals per day and accommodation for the period of January to March 2020. During their stay, we have been able to provide them with Psycho-social support as a supplement to their treatment.
The Challenges
Different cancer patients are given specific diet requirements by health professionals. Patient Relief mission has however been able to generalize the meals due to lack of finances which has caused setbacks towards the achievement of our objectives of cancer care and management. We intend to start giving specific diet to different patients as per Doctor’s specifications to enable us to catchup and achieve our goals and objectives in an effective manner.
Conclusion
We strongly believe that together we can give means of treatment and survival to Cancer patients. Thank you for your support to Patient Relief Mission and the female Cancer patients in need. To donate go here: http://goto.gg/43833
