In the fight against Covid-19, IORM lead volunteers to produce and donate 40k masks - Report

Since April 2020, Institute Oswaldo Ribeiro de Mendonça – IORM has already produced and distributed 35.536 fabric masks for free to protect the vulnerable population that lives in disadvantaged neighborhoods, elderly shelters, companies, public health institutions, homeless people and religious institutions in 11 cities in the northwest of State of São Paulo against Covid-19.

 

The masks are manufactured with fabrics and trims bought by IORM with the resources donated through the GlobalGiving. The total amount raised through the platform and granted to the IORM was R$ 87.982,34 reais. The masks were cut and produced by 160 volunteers in 8 cities. Thanks for this voluntary activity, the unit cost for each mask was US$ 0,499. The IORM set up a logistical operation to send all the cut fabric pieces to the volunteers and to gather the masks produced, making its distribution. The masks follow the safety guidelines of Ministry of Health. During the manufacturing, the volunteers stayed in their own houses, following the protocols of social distancing. After finishing, the masks were sterilized and packed every two units. The IORM celebrated with the community in every single thousand masks produced and distributed.

 

The IORM is a Civil Society Organization – OSCIP, founded in August 5th of 2005. With the operations in culture, education, reading programs, sports, social assistance and income generation. The projects held contributes to the integral development of the people and their formation as a citizen. From its founding, the IORM has assisted more than 10.000 people. All the work is accomplished in a partnership with the local governments, State of São Paulo, Union, private companies and third sector. The Institute is registered and certified with the Conselho Municipal de Assistência Social, by Conselho da Criança e do Adolescente and Secretarias do Estado de Desenvolvimento Social, Cultura e Esportes.
