Third Quarterly Report
on
Access to Clean Water for Coastal People (in Bangladesh) Program
Implementing by
Nowabenki Gonomukhi Foundation (NGF)
Duration: July-September 2017
1.0 Introduction
Clean Water for Coastal People (in Bangladesh) Program has now six desalination plants located at six different places that can produce more than 50 thousand liters clean water every day. We cannot use full capacity due to various reasons, such as, black outs of electricity, low storage capacity, and above all lacking transport to supply water to distant places where there is a need, etc.
2.0 Activities
In the last quarter (July-September, 2017) we have carried out the production and distribution of clean water as we do normally. Additionally, during that period we have carried out an awareness building campaign on “Awareness Building of Safe Drinking Water” among our female target group.
The objectives of the campaign were mainly two - first, to make them aware of the available source of
safe drinking water or how they can clean water at household level with minimum efforts, second, the importance of safe drinking water in everyday household practices. The target group was also told about the relation between use of clean water and household health - its impacts on the productivity/economic activities.
3.0 Production and distribution of water
In the current reporting period (3nd quarter of 2017) more than 1.2 million liters of clean water has been produced on an average in each month (Table1) under the program. In this period, production and free distribution of water has been increased by 5.23% and 1.8% respectively in comparison to the last quarter (Table 1 & 3).However, in this quarter 3.6 million liters of clean water was produced under the program, of which 2.4 million liters was distributed at free of cost, and more than 1.1 liters of water was sold. Besides, income from selling water has increased slightly by $354 (8.96%) and expenditure by $468 (7.69%) in this period (Table2 & 3).
4.0 Staff strength
The staff strength of the program remains the same as in the last quarter. For details please see the last report (2nd quarter report).
5.0 The challenges
The challenges of the program also remain more or less the same. It needs to generate more revenue to meet up its administrative costs. To make the program a centralized water supply system, the program needs more staff, set up delivery points and procure a supply van.
6.0The future plan
To achieve our target that is stated in the campaign document, we are running the fundraising campaign, if we are successful, we will strengthen the capacity of delivery system so that we can supply the water at the door steps of the beneficiaries. At the same time we will try to sell some water to the nearest markets to generate more revenue as there is a great need of clean water.
