Teen girls in Gaza face acute challenges through no fault of their own. Facing dire circumstances, without stable homes or access to reliable toilets, they are unable to manage their menstrual health needs. This causes tremendous shame. With your help, Project Soar will provide reusable menstrual kits with washable menstrual products that last up to 5 years. These Soar-Hurya Menstrual Kits offer an immediate way to do something tangible for girls in Gaza, in the face of crisis.
According to UN Women 1.9+ million people in Gaza have been displaced, including 1 million women and girls. Teen girls are already the most marginalized group in the world today, and girls in Gaza are at further risk of even more discrimination and hardship as they do not have access to adequate menstrual products, enough water and bathrooms where to take care of their periods. Taking care of one's body and menstrual health is a necessity even in crisis situations, and it cannot be put aside.
Project Soar has partnered with Hurya, a leading textile company in Morocco. Together we have developed the Soar-Hurya reusable menstrual kit specifically designed to meet the needs of girls facing period poverty. Each kit contains: 1 boxer, 2 briefs, 1 sanitary napkin, 1 bar of soap, 1 explanatory brochure and a small portable bag. With Medecins du Monde as our trusted distribution partner, we can ensure the secure and efficient delivery of these essential menstrual kits to girls in Gaza.
Project Soar's goal is to empower teen girls, helping them take control of their physical and mental health, complete high school, avoid child marriage, and gain skills useful for future employment. Within the current crisis situation they are in, teen girls in Gaza need help managing their menstrual health needs in the long-term, which is why the Soar-Hurya products will cover their needs 3 to 5 years. We want to ensure one less thought and help them to care for their menstrual health.
