As Aleppo strives to rebuild and rejuvenate in the aftermath of challenging times, the community centres have emerged as focal points for positive change.
In recent times, our community centres in Aleppo have witnessed a remarkable evolution in their impact, reflecting a concerted effort to address the diverse needs of the most vulnerable members of society, particularly the children navigating the streets of Aleppo.
AL MYSAR CENTER
Al Myasar center was opened in August 2022 and currently is attended by around 950 beneficiaries, participating in the activities conducted within the following departments:
- Pronunciation section.
- Department of Awareness and Psychological Support (individual + group sessions).
- Department of educational stages.
- Literacy Department (adolescent girls + women).
- Educational section of certificates (ninth + baccalaureate).
KARM AL DO DO CENTER
Karm Al Do Do center is providing the highest number of services for around 3100 beneficiaries. The activities conducted can be summarized as follows:
- Educational support towards completing the school path.
- Teaching of the English language.
- Disabilities: it includes all categories of disabilities (psychological, mental, motor, articulation, and speech disorders, auditory), in which the child condition and level are evaluated in terms of mental, behavioural, motor, independent and life performance, and an intervention and rehabilitation program is developed, at a rate of two sessions per week.
- Speech Disorder Department: it includes autism, intellectual disability, language delay, speech disorders, and hearing deficiency. The child condition is evaluated, and the intervention program is developed according to his/her need for sessions, at a rate of two sessions per week. The average duration of the session varies from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
- Awareness and psychological support sessions for women: through which topics and appropriate work mechanisms are integrated to review all the problems that women and the family suffer from in general, as well as to enhance their capabilities and skills to face daily challenges.
- Individual psychological support: tackling psychological disorders and psychological pressures. Under this support, individual counselling on fear management, isolation and rejection are conducted.
- Literacy for women: literacy and psychological support, to facilitate their path towards completing the school cycle, as well as providing them with the appropriate tools for continuing their studies.
- Pediatrician: providing examinations, check-ups, and follow-ups for children, and well as simple medicines when needed.
AL SHA'AR CENTER
The centre of Al Sha’ar, in addition to community services, it provides many other services such as health services by networking with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Directorate of Health and Relief Services. For these reasons, this centre is considered one of the most important community centres present in the region, hosting in total around 2500 beneficiaries.
The centre is divided into the following departments:
- Educational Support Department.
- Pronunciation Department: this development is in the process of expanding its activities, due to the strong need observed on the field.
- Awareness: it consists of sessions for women covering different topics related to the management of the house and the approach towards disability.
- Department of Psychological Support: it represents the basis of the centre, with individual and group sessions.
- Special Needs Section: it includes all categories of disabilities (psychological, mental, kinetic, articulation and speech disorders, auditory), through which the child condition and level are evaluated in terms of mental, behavioural, kinetic, independent and life performance. An intervention and rehabilitation program were developed, at a rate of two sessions per week and according to the Lovas and Portage programs.
- Department of Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation: in this department, all cases of pronunciation and speech disorders, language delay, and hearing impairment of all degrees are received, except for total deafness. The child condition is evaluated, and an intervention program is developed, whose sessions range from 15 to 20, with parents being trained in each session on how to deal with their child, to improve their speech. The sessions are conducted once a week for half an hour.
- Remedial Section: it includes children and parents (age range from 5 to 40 years) who have dropped out and are committed to education. They are divided into periods according to their level and literacy curriculum.
The expanding initiatives of Aleppo's community centres showcase resilience and compassion. Join us in supporting these efforts!
