We are so happy that we were able to provide food baskets for many households in the Makindu area. The holiday's are about bringing people together and keeping up traditions. In Makindu, cultural traditions keep people excited and moving forward, especially during hard times. Thank you so much for helping us provide food baskets to the many households that depend on them to keep up their family traditions. The food baskets provide enough food for several days.
However, rain has taken over again through the plains of Makindu, Kenya right as the harvest season arises. Last year during the rainy season, houses washed away in the floods and some people are still without a home. A lot of food was washed away including the new and ready to harvest plants. This is a crucial time for us to prepare to have to provide food to Makindu Children's Centre before the rain gets even worse. Along with anticipating to have to branch outside of Makindu for food, we are projecting that the prices for grain and feed for the animals will not be going down anytime soon.
The prices for grain and feed have skyrocketed. The animals we have at the Makindu Children's Centre need the grain and feed to survive. We are anticipating having to cover costs for the grain and feed, and the loss of harvest we will come upon as the rainy season approaches.
The source of nutrition that these animals provide helps those with HIV react to their medicines better. But, the best cure for any disease is happiness and security, unfortunately it's really hard to have both when food is tight, weather is bad and HIV has affected so many around. We would love to be able to be prepared for the rough rainy days and potential flooding similar to what occurred last year in the Makindu region.
Although incredible technology to combat AIDS is coming out, there is still a major need for assistance especially with the uncertain weather conditions upon us at Makindu Children’s Centre.
Asante for your support.
