As we near the end of the year, we look back on the progress we made in citizenship cases.
- Fon (age 16) got her Thai ID card on April 7, 2022. We started her case in 2019.
- We submitted the finalized paperwork for Nada and Fah this year and are waiting for the Bangkok head office to assign them an ID number to get their cards. We started one case in 2019, and one case in 2020. It usually takes about a year for the number to be assigned
- We have interviews scheduled in December for witnesses to speak with the government offices to complete the last step for the application on Suwit and Naseh's cases.
- We are waiting on the government office to change the country of birth to Thailand for Naleh and Ying's cases. This paperwork was submitted in Nov 2021 and still has not been signed. Makes us wonder what these people do all day. We call and check on the status every Tuesday.
- We have another 18 cases in process that we are either working toward citizenship (for those born in Thailand) or keeping an eye on changing laws so we can submit (for those born in Burma but going to school in Thailand).
- We will be meeting with two other organizations to discuss taking on cases for their clients in 2023, along with family members of current clients who need assistance as well. We estimate we will add 10 cases in 2023.
