Thank you for your generous support to Help Schools, Victims of Terror Attacks and IDPs.

Cash Assistance for 44 families in Baghlan:

Thousands of Afghans lost their homes and many lost their lives during devastating floods in Baghlan, Afghanistan in May this year. Areas inhabited by Hazaras were once again ignored from aid distribution by the major aid agencies. Despite our limited reach, we organized a fundraiser (https://goto.gg/f/50700) to provide life-saving aid to those who were severely affected by the floods.

Our team on the ground discreetly conducted a survey in consultation with community leaders to identify the most at-risk families.

Approximately 800 people live in the village of Sharshar. Our local team visited the affected areas and with the approval of the local leaders identified Sharshar as the most affected and in need of assistance. 12 villagers had lost their lives, five injured and 28 villagers had completely lost their homes and belongings. Many more had damaged homes with their farms destroyed and the village had lost significant number of livestock.

Our team distributed an amount of $1718 as cash assistance for 44 families. We raised $555 via the above fundraiser and Bamyan matched with $1220. This was a very small assistance to a small segment of the population given the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis. The aid was distributed in June this year.

ISIS Attack on Saheb-Al-Zaman Mosque in Herat:

On April 29, 2024, ISIS attacked the Saheb-Al-Zaman Mosque, by opening fire on Hazara worshipers in Herat, Afghanistan, killing six, including a child. We raised $675 via our fundraiser (https://goto.gg/f/50571) and Bamyan matched with $875 to make it a total of $1550.

After our local team identified the victims, we provided cash assistance to families of six individuals who lost their lives, and the families of 17 individuals who were injured in the attack. The assistance was distributed in the month of June this year.

These families were among the poorest and most vulnerable in Herat that were systematically targeted due to their race and religion. They lived in remote areas of the province; however, despite the challenges – our local team managed to reach them and distributed the modest assistance.

We are grateful to our local team of volunteers who work tirelessly and discreetly alongside the community leaders on the ground, and our generous donors who made these small rounds of aid assistance possible.

Thank you,

Timor + The Bamyan Foundation Team
