The people of Afghanistan continue going through enormous challenges and hardships. Successive devastating earthquakes shattered Herat in October that resulted to thousands of death and injured, and countless homes completely destroyed.
We launched a fundraiser and our local team on the ground began a survey of the affected areas in the early days of the earthquakes. Taliban, once again, continued with the approach of denying aid to the affected Hazara areas. Despite the challenges, our team managed to distribute the aid secretly and discreetly to the impoverished families affected by the earthquakes. Overall, 83 families benefited from our aid package in the form of cash assistance (3,000 AFN per family). We also just sent another aid package for Herat earlier this month, and we will provide an update once the assistance is safely distributed. While we were in the middle of our Herat campaign, the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked a Hazara mosque in the town of Puli Khumri located in Baghlan province. 20 people lost their lives and many more injured. We launched another fundraiser and dispatched an aid package for this emergency initiative. Our local team distributed cash assistance for the 20 families who had lost a loved one (5000 AFN per family for a total of 100,000 AFN), and 6000 AFN/per family for the 21 families of the injured. Additionally, we provided food packages for 73 families who were facing severe food shortages. For more, please visit our website by clicking on the link below.
We also received an update that the construction of a school in central Afghanistan is in its final stages. We participated in a community-led initiative to build this school. Though the exterior construction is compete; however, the school is in need of assistance for doors, windows, proper roof, interior paint and black/white boards in each classes.
