Your Support Gets Us Through Again!

By Angie | Director

Kitten season has arrived at Dixie Adoptables! So far we have bottle fed 19 kittens with the last 4 still on the bottle. This requires hard work and dedication from our fosters who have to feed every few hours around the clock. We have already gone through 20lbs of kitten milk formula! We couldn’t do this without your support.

In total we have taken in 100 felines and canines in the last 3 months. 21 of the cats came from one home. It was an elderly person that had passed away and relatives had basically opened the doors and let all the cats loose in the neighborhood. This meant having to trap most of them followed by many trips to the vet and then caring for them at the shelter.

Of the many litters of puppies we have taken in, 3 were found after being dumped at a dirt pit. It is so heartbreaking that people don’t spay and neuter their pets, and then when the inevitable happens they treat the puppies so cruelly.

Becoming the parent to a pet should always be a carefully considered and never a spur of the moment decision. Unfortunately, we also saw 2 dogs surrendered because they did the unthinkable: they grew up and became dogs and the owners “just didn’t have time for them”.

Dixie Adoptables also treated 6 dogs for heartworms, which of course is another expense that wouldn’t be possible without your generous donations!

55 dogs and cats were adopted and transported in the last few months.

Nola, the dog born without front legs, got her wheelchair recently and is doing great with it. We are so proud of her and hope she finds a forever home soon!``
