Dixie Adoptables has helped some truly vulnerable babies in the last few months.
Piper Ann, a kitten, came to us with a very bad upper respiratory infection. Unfortunately the infection had caused too much damage to one of her eyes, and our veterinarian had to remove it, but Piper Ann doesn’t let the disability slow her down.
Drew, a young dog, came in unable to use one of his back legs. After our veterinarian took x-rays, it was determined that he had previously had surgery for an injury. The problem was that the owners had never done the necessary after care and as a result, he wasn’t able to use the leg. With proper care from our loving staff, Drew now uses that leg and will be looking for a forever home soon.
Belle, a beautiful lab puppy, was abandoned on the side of the road in a cat carrier. She was adopted within a few weeks of her arrival at our shelter.
Hope was found on the side of the road with one of the most severe cases of demodex that we have ever seen. This sweet pup has the best outlook on life despite the hard life she has experienced. She is still in treatment and will be for some time. She is a fighter and we are determined to see her get well and have a wonderful life.
Gideon, a kitten, was found starving and little more than skin and bones. This little guy needed intensive care around the clock. He was not only fighting for his life, but also a bad upper respiratory infection. He is now eating on his own, and feeling much better.
Mushu’s mother died right after he was born. He and his siblings were in bad shape. Mushu is the only one that survived. He is determined to live, and screams for his bottle. This fat little kitten has now opened his eyes, and knows the sound of foster mom’s voice.
Opal has been with us for almost 500 days (over 16 months). She is a beautiful, sweet girl. Opal’s issue? She doesn’t really like other dogs and needs a home where she is the queen. It hurts us to see the sadness in her eyes. Please share Opal’s story and picture and help us find her a forever family.
As you can see, we have been very busy. We have also treated 7 more dogs for heartworms in the last 3 months.
Dixie Adoptables has also completed more transports, but with the added cost of renting vans to make it happen. Our transport bus is still in the shop after 4 months of waiting for parts. They have been slow to come in but we have been told that it should be ready any day. The bill is estimated to be over $6000.00.
We have had 38 adoptions and transported 68 animals in the last 3 months.
As always we thank you for your support, and know that without it, we couldn’t make a difference in the lives of these wonderful babies!
