Project Report | Jun 12, 2023
Polish lessons for refugees

By Iwona Olkowicz | Project coordinator

POLISH VERSION BELOW:

Polish language classes are very popular! The group not only does not decrease in size but even grows! We conduct classes in 2 groups: basic and advanced. Recently, the group was joined by citizens of Belarus, who also fled the war in Ukraine. They are eager to learn the language and are increasingly thinking about staying longer.

In April 2023, we did a survey of the plans of those who came from Ukraine and noticed that their plans had changed from those in the fall of 2022. Initially, they all said they would soon leave Poland for their homeland (probably hoping for a quick end to the war), but lately, more and more people bind their future with Poland - they no longer think they came here for a while but are slowly planning to build stronger ties with Poland. Language assistance is a great support for them. Equally important support for them is the relationships they made during the lessons with other refugees - now the women feel more vigorous because they are a group, they are no longer single mothers who left their husbands and fathers of their children in their homeland but are part of a larger community and can count on each other.

In addition to Polish lessons, we provide art workshops for their children while they learn a new language and plan to take the official state exam in Polish. The certificate they earn will help them not only get a better job but also apply for a permanent residence card in Poland. Such support is very valuable to them. Without our support, they would not be able to pay for the state language exam on their own. Therefore, we would like to thank you very much for your donations so far and ask you to help us raise more funds that will allow us to respond even more effectively to the needs of refugees.

POLISH VERSION:

Zajecia prowadzimy w 2 grupach: podstawowej i zaawansowanej. Ostatnio do grupy dolaczyli obywatele Bialorusi, którzy takze uciekli przed wojna z Ukrainy.
