Hi dear friends!

Time goes by so fast, almost half a year has gone and our little English Club getting its goals! On this occasion we would like to tell you about our little English Club at the YUM Library in Central Kalimantan (Borneo Island). We believe that by knowing English language it widens one’s horizons and opens an opportunity to make many friends worldwide. YUM wishes to give to the children from the communities it serves that same chance.

The English Club is part of the regular activities of our Library. Twice a week from 2pm to 3pm about 30 children come to our Library to learn English and have fun. They are students from 1st to 6th grades. Some of the children come from nearby villages, such as Sukamulya and Tengkiling, which are more than half and hour walk from the YUM Library.

Children learn English no by being seated in a class and doing exercises but by participating actively through games, drawings, singing and by watching movies. Our children favorite song is “Daddy Finger” and “If You are Happy”. Children know the lyrics and they like to sing and dance along the video clip. Watching a movie is also their favorite activity. After the movie session, we discuss the story and we give children some assignments, such as making sentences with the new words or by drawing characters or subjects seen in the movie.

We are truly thankful to you, GlobalGiving friends, for your valuable donations to YUM’s children in Kalimantan. You are making possible for them to achieve a better future.

Thank you !!!!
