Open to the public during the week days from 9 am until 5 pm, the library’s main activities are not just borrowing and reading books, but will also include activities such as storytelling, writing, drawing, watching movies, dancing, arts and crafts, English club, and health education. Besides, we also have some visits from individual volunteer or group who want to help the activities. These activities have all been introduced by the YUM librarian to encourage children to love reading, hone their creativity, and to bring forward the children’s good personality in order to improve their quality of life and also their families.
On June, thanks for visit from 10 students and 2 teachers from Jakarta International School (JIS) to do community services in YUM Kalimantan. Storytelling activities, English class, science games, more games and arts and crafts activities were the activities given to the children. On July, the library had individual volunteers _ Renae and Martin_ which taught the children to play and learn in a fun way. Games of guessing some things in English, drawing and colouring activities, make a collage from arts and crafts paper and more can attract the children to come to the library and play with them. CERES group from Australia also coming in the next days and have some similar activities which can improve library visits.
If you are interested in volunteering or community service at our community centre in Cipanas or Kalimantan, please let me know at aris@yumindonesia.org. Our team would be happy to welcome you and so do the children, as described in the following testimonial:
“I like coming to YUM Library because I can also gain more friends, girls and boys. So there will always be some friends that I can have fun and play with or read together. My favorite book is Miko, Novel, learning books and many others. I also like people who work there. All of them are so nice and fun. Guests will come from local and overseas and they will have activities with us. From science, dancing, English lesson, games, sport etc. So, I always encourage my friends to come to YUM as well, because the books are always up to date, have a creativity day and games as well.” Yusvita – 2nd grade of Junior High School.
