Help fund transport for OYO

As you know, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian NGO that uses Arts to create social awareness.

End of last year, we started a campaign to try and raise fund for a much-needed car. If you know us, you know we work tirelessly to reach young people, especially in remote area. However, to be able to reach students in school or young people in the field, we need transport.

Over the past 20 years, we have received few vehicles. Securing transport has always been an issue. We have:

  • A condor, donated in 2002 by the then Embassy of the Netherlands in Windhoek. The car is around 420,000 km but still operates for projects in Windhoek
  • A Renault Duster from 2015 that was negotiated thanks to Avis. The car is over 230,000 km and experiences few technical issues – it is currently stranded and sadly not being used.
  • Two 14-seaters quantums from 2017 that were donated by the Global Fund to fight HIV, tuberculosis and malaria. They are both over 220,000 km.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to secure transport. We are extremely thankful to our partners, but the purchase of a vehicle is not an expense they can cover. After trying everything, we concluded that we will have to raise the funds ourselves.

We approached you to help you fundraise for a car. So far, we haven’t managed to raise much funding. But we are truly grateful to those of you who contributed so far. We have put the money aside. Thanks to that money, we could secure a little deposit and approached a bank. We did manage to get a loan, so we could buy a new car. We now have to raise enough funds to pay the monthly repayment, so we really still count on you all. But we are very happy. We had to let go of our old Condor – after 20 years, it was heartbreaking to sale the car. But it was the best option to complement your donations.

We will keep this page opened for as long as it takes to pay for the new car – the loan is for 5 years. If you know anybody who can support us, please do share with them. We can now reach again schools that are too far, but we know we still have a long way before calling this car truly ours.

Together, we know we can make a difference.

With many thanks and warmest regards

Philippe
