As you know, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian NGO that uses Arts to create social awareness.
End of last year, we started a campaign to try and raise fund for a much-needed car. If you know us, you know we work tirelessly to reach young people, especially in remote area. However, to be able to reach students in school or young people in the field, we need transport.
Over the past 20 years, we have received few vehicles. Securing transport has always been an issue. We have:
It is becoming increasingly difficult to secure transport. We are extremely thankful to our partners, but the purchase of a vehicle is not an expense they can cover. After trying everything, we concluded that we will have to raise the funds ourselves.
We approached you to help you fundraise for a car. So far, we haven’t managed to raise much funding. But we are truly grateful to those of you who contributed so far. We have put the money aside. If we can raise a little more, we will use it as deposit, in case a bank does accept we get a loan to buy a car. Alternatively, we will try and pay for major repairs, at least on the Renault, to see if it can drive us a little longer.
We have approached two banks so far – it is a long process, as banks here don’t like to give loans to NGOs. We have motivated our request, and we hope one of the two will indeed come back with an offer.
We will keep this page opened for as long as it takes to secure enough funding to be able to buy a reliable transport. We had to say no to a few schools that are too far, and it is always heart-breaking. Together, we know we can make a difference.
