By BARBARA ASEMPA | PROJECT LEADER
The Nyitawuta community in the months of August to October did not see major activities mainly based on two factors. The rainfall for the area was very heavy and prolonged and for a long period the place was cut off and vehicles could hardly go in and out of the place. Secondly HOCAP is finding it difficult to raise funds to support the work in the community. All the same during the period few activities were undertaken.
WOMEN MOBILIZATION
We are happy to say that the women group that was equipped to start processing cassava into gari have taken the project seriously and even though HOCAP’s presence was limited during the period under review the women them selves were able to keep the gari processing on going and went ahead to even make a gate for the facility so that goats and other animals are unable to come to the gari processing facility. This brings us lots of joy because once the community begins to own the project there will be self sufficiency and when HOCAP pulls out to another community there will be sustainability.
SUPERVISON
HOCAP kept one officer in the community to supervise ongoing project in the community and also to address issues as and when they come up.
EDUCATION
The support to Junior highschools went on successfully. the Junior Secondary students who took their national exams were given books from HOCAP. Fortunately, HOCAP did not have to buy new books but the previous books that were bought by HOCAP and used by the past student was passed on to the final year students. We are happy to say that these students have completed their education successfully.
HCOAP continues to support Ernestina in her vocational training. all her fees were paid and she is currently on vacation in the Nyitawuta community.
SOLAR LAMP PROVISION
In collaboration with another NGO, Village Exchange Ghana, a needs assessment was conducted in the Nyitawuta community for the provision of solar lamps to house hold. by the Grace of God, the solar lamps have arrived in the country and this will be distributed in the community in the month of December. The solar charging unit will be stationed at the clinic being built for the community
CLINIC BUILDING
The clinic building is on going. We are grateful to God that we have been able to build the bio gas and also fixed all the plumbing fixtures. There was the need to do an expansion to add one more bathroom and this has been completed. The overhead water tank is being fixed over this weekend. It is our prayer that the clinic will be operational by the end of the next quarter in the year 2023.
WAY FORWARD
1. To complete the clinic project in the next quarter
2. To under take the end of year Christmas love box program for the Nyitawutat community
3. to round up all project in Nyitawuta in the year 2023
4. to make sure before HOCAP folds up from the Nyitawuta community, the community owns all the projects and is self sufficientt and sustainable.
5. To make sure the clinic is operational and the solar is extended to the clinic
