CHRISTIAN NURTURE

During the Christmas festivities, HOCAP gave Christmas love boxes to 150 children in 3 orphanages. Each Christmas love box contained food, drink, plates, cutlery, cup, stationary, books, towel and sponge. All children in the Nyitawuta community and its environs received 250 love boxes. In total, 400 children were reached with the love boxes. The joy on the faces of these children and the entire community was overwhelming.

EDUCATION

HOCAP was grateful to have received a donation of 15 laptops. The laptops are to be given to the Nyitawuta community, however due to the absence of electric power in the community, donating of all laptops was not done. One laptop was donated to Michael: a Senior High School student in the community to assist in his education. A second laptop was also donated to a teacher in Nyitawuta, Dominic who assists the children in the community with extra classes.

The children were overwhelmed to have a teacher teach them with a laptop. For most of them, this was their first time. The teacher usually charges the laptop in a neighbouring community so it can be used the next day for ICT lessons in school.

HOCAP is grateful to offer its continuous support to Ernestina, a young person who completed her Senior High School Education and has been enrolled to continue with her higher Education in Vocational Skills come April 2022.

The results of the 11 children who were supported by HOCAP for the Basic Education Certificate Examination have been released. There was a significant improvement in the results obtained and this can be attributed to the extra resources like extra classes, books and hiring of additional teachers that were provided. Schools are being scouted for these children and they should be enrolled in Senior High Schools when National placements are released in April 2022.

The next phase of Educational support for children in First, Second and third years of Junior High School has commenced.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

HOCAP purchased a cassava grater and a cassava presser for the women group in Nyitawuta community. This was to enable the women start-up businesses in gari (cassava flakes) processing. This would add value to the cassava planted by the members of the community. This would not only increase their income but encourage more members of the community to go into cassava plantation. Having in mind that there is a ready market in the community for the women to buy the cassava and process into gari.

Introducing this machine in the community has encouraged the women to buy more bags of cassava from other communities for gari processing. The women leaders have been adequately trained and are guided to efficiently use the machines to teach their fellow women how to also use the machines. HOCAP looks forward to building a shed and equipping the women with other logistics needed for the Gari processing project. The target of HOCAP is to make the Gari processing project a major income generating activity for the women.

AGRICULTURE

The harvesting of maize in the minor farming season was a successful one. The HOCAP demonstration farm was also a partaker of the successful harvest. During the major farming season which starts in April 2022, community members will be supported with cassava sticks for their plantation. The aim of this activity is to encourage more individuals to farm cassava which is the raw material for the Gari processing.

HEALTH

HOCAP started and completed the phase 3 of the health clinic being constructed for the Nyitawuta community. We are happy to report that the building has been roofed, plumbing and electrical work have also been completed. Members of the community are excited as they witness the manifestation of the community clinic which felt like a dream for a long time. We are trusting God to raise funds to bring this project to completion and start it operation in the community.
