This report will cover activities of HOCAP for the past four month, August to November 2021.
CHRISTIAN NURTURE: HOCAP continued to support the deprived and orphaned in the community. There was a donation of clothes, books, funiture among others to community members.
EDUCATION: HOCAP gave Nyitawuta community four more Solar lamps in the recreational garden to help the final year students study towards their national exams. HOCAP continued to pay two teachers to teach the students preparing for their exams. We are happy to say that the exams was written by all the students and we are hopeful that they will do well to go to their next stage on the education ladder.
There was a thanks giving program when the exams was done for the entire community, this was basically to allow the students display various talents. HOCAP supported the program and we are happy to say that nearby communities who came to witness the program have approached HOCAP to bring such educational programs to their communities to encourage their children to go to school
Most often when students are done with exams and are idle waiting for their result, some end up with activities that does not help them and in the process end up becoming school dropout. HOCAP has therefore put in place an educational program to occupy them whilst they wait for their result.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING – BAKERY: HOCAP is happy to announce that we were able to purchase a commercial oven and hire the services of the facilitator to train nyitawuta community members on baking, especially bread making. We realized that in the entire community no one bakes bread and they have to travel to the neighboring communities before they can buy bread. The target of this baking project is to equip interested community members with the skill and also to eventually become an income generating activities for community members. We are happy to say the first batch of the training went on successfully and we have about three groups who have shown so much interest in baking bread and selling not only in the community but to other communities as well. To make this project sustainable HOCAP paid for the initial cost of entire training, but once members baked and sold they have been taught simple book keeping were they divide their profit into three, reinvest one portion to the business and also one portion for using the oven and gas provided by HOCAP, then keeps the third portion. The money paid to HOCAP is kept by the community group leader who will use it to buy gas once it is finished at the bakery and also for any repairs that might be necessary to sustain the bakery.
AGRICULTURE: The group in Nyitawuta who were supported during the major season have all harvested their maize and other product. The HOCAP demonstrated farm were worked on by the community members and we are happy to say that the agricultural extention officer in the district that was engaged in the district to support the farmers did his work very well and by God’s Grace the harvest yield was very good. the community have been supported with maize seed for the minor season.
The rest of the mango seedlings for the five archer land given by the community for demonstration farm was also planted. In total 400 mangoes seedlings was planted in September and we are happy to say the plants are doing well.
GARI PROCESSING: Gari is a stable food in Ghana and is processed from cassava. HOCAP supported the community leaders to be part of the gari processing training program. This training was very successful. The target was to encourage the community to add value to their product to get better price on the market. The women’s group has since the training appealed to HOCAP to equip them with more training and set the gari processing factory in the community. We are happy to say that HOCAP has paid for the gari processing machine and is currently being fabricated in Accra and we are expecting delivery in six weeks. The first two machines HOCAP has paid for is the cassava grater and the presser.
We have encouraged the community to start planting more cassava if we have to start processing for the larger community outside Nyitawuta.
HEALTH: HOCAP has started the phase two of the health clinic facility that is under construction for the community. Over 3000 blocks have been molded and all materials for the phase two bought. Work now begins on Monday 29th November 2021.
HOCAP supported a community member to undergo an eye surgery, we are happy to announce that all reviews have been done and the man have since returned to his carpentry work. In fact he is the one who made the furniture for the women to use in the bakery.
There was a medical emergency in the community, I man swallowed a bone that it got stuck in his throat. The HOCAP representative in the community rushed him to the hospital and by the Grace of God he was attended to and discharged with HOCAP paying for the entire bill since the man could not afford to pay.
