Haiti is leading the world in protest of rising imported food prices. Ox plowing is a way that Haitian farmers can cultivate more land and grow more food themselves to feed their families. Grain mills are also a way that Haitians can maximize their crops by milling grains into flour. Both provide more food and more income for Haitian families.
Several community organizations in rural Haiti have not had the tools to cultivate the land and grow more food. Ox plows are the appropriate technology for plowing fields. Grain mills are also a service an organization can provide to a rural community to mill their grains into flour. An ox plowing service or grain mill will enable them to cultivate or mill their crops, feed their families and provide an income opportunity. Training, tools and evaluation are important components too.
With your help, Lambi Fund will buy plows, oxen, tools, and veterinary care for organizations needing an ox plowing service AND Lambi Fund will purchase materials to build a grain mill. Lambi Fund staff will provide organizational and project training on running a plowing service or a grain milling service. Haitians will have more food that they grow themselves and will earn a sustainable livelihood.
With the extra income provided by the sale of produce or milled grains at the market, an entire community organization will be self-sufficient. The food will feed families and the profits from the sales will improve their livelihood for years to come.
