Project Report | Aug 2, 2019
Reading, a window to development

By Beatriz Gandara | Project Leader

Your donation continues to transform the lives of the girls in the department of Retalhuleu, in this opportunity we emphasize the importance of reading in the educational processes of the scholarship holders, since the project includes within its methodology the modality of Dialogical Reading, which has allowed the creation of the habit of reading, promoting a better oral and written expression in each of the girls.

The first semester of the year Guadalupe has received reading sessions and she shares with us that “reading for me has been like magic, because when I read with my sister we learn and she has helped us to improve our academic grades”, they are currently reading the book ‘The Rhinoceros’, which has motivated her to continue with her education.

Guadalupe likes to read in her spare time and support her mother in household chores and farm activities. In addition, she enjoys doing her homework and helping her twin sister with difficult subjects.

Thanks to your donation, 36 girls are receiving scholarships in this school year, 28 girls in the second basic grade who began to receive scholarships in 2018 and 8 who are starting high school. Thanks to the monitoring carried out in schools, it has been verified that 85% of the girls have satisfactory grades in the Communication and Language course, which has resulted in a positive effect on the reading sessions that are being implemented with the girls.
