Project Report | Jun 1, 2018
If I study our family will improve!

By Beatriz Gandara | Project Leader

Orfa, 12 years old, lives in the Parcelamiento Caballo of the municipality of Retalhuleu. Orfa lives with her father who suffers from an illness that has invalidated him to work in the field, which is where he generated income to support his family and although she has her mother, she does not live with her because she works in the department of Quetzaltenango as a domestic employee, in order to financially support her family.

Her father in turn supports the household with chores and support for their two children. In addition to have another source of income they have a small store selling consumer products daily in a space inside the house.

Orfa is a young girl who strives to take advantage of the opportunity to study and prepares for the future, she hopes to graduate and get a job so she can help their parents to support the family. Orfa knows that the future that awaits and prepares her is better if she continues studying.

Orfa has been supported since she was 9 years old and was in fourth grade, so aspirational changes have been visualized, such as the desire to continue with her studies, since usually in the community where she lives, she has observed cases of her partners who acquire premature commitments that do not allow them to continue studying.
