Project Report | Apr 25, 2018
Their ambition has no limits

By Beatriz Gandara | Project Leader

During the current year 2018, the identification of 28 vulnerable young girls from 4 communities of the Retalhuleu department has been achieved, they were given home accompaniment that allowed us to identify their context and needs.

These young women are motivated to continue with their studies, although several of them have to walk between 30 to 50 minutes to reach their school every day.

The challenge faced by girls in this transitional stage has been the adaptation of having several teachers according to the course they receive and the growth in the number of courses, since previously they were minors at the primary level. These changes are reflected in the low grades of the girls in some courses, but they level in the following units, this is the result of the commitment they have, the support of their families and the accompaniment of the project.

During this quarter, the first training aimed at young girls was held, and the following topics were shared: "The function of the educational center and activities that have strengthened mathematical logic". On the other hand, training has been provided to parents on "The function of the educational center". These meetings have allowed to strengthen trust between families and the project, which promotes better communication and as an effect the permanence of this young girls in the school.

The communities where the majority of the scholarships are focused can be seen in the chart: Cantón Ayutia and Parcelamiento Santa Fé, in both communities the distance to the department ranges from one hour of travel. In both communities the vulnerability of girls is high.
