Shade for Children in Ukraine supports family preservation and reunification, advocates for foster care and adoption, and provides social and relational safety nets for orphaned and vulnerable children. Twice in recent years, Shade for Children used crowdfunding to purchase a car for two different foster families. This time Shade for Children wants to provide a cash grant to family that has adopted one child and wants to adopt one or two more children.
Adoptive parents want to adopt a 2nd (and maybe a 3rd) child. A subsequent adoption right now is delayed because they don't have room in their current two bedroom apartment (per Social Service requirements). They could have fled Ukraine when Russia renewed its invasion in 2022 but instead chose to stay and serve others so they proceeded with their construction plans in April, 2022.
1. Completing their home will allow a 2nd (or 3rd) adoption to proceed. 2. So far they've built without borrowing money and of course, they prefer not to borrow at all. A grant from Shade for Children could help them finish the project with no debt. 3. The home is currently about 65% complete, $35,000 should finish the home. They hope to move-in Summer of 2025.
The strongest long-term impact of this project is that it will pave the way for this family to adopt a 2nd or 3rd child, to take a child from a State-run institution (never a good place for a child) and give him/her a forever family. The impact of providing this grant will allow this family to complete their home without incurring debt.
