Help Feed 800 Venezuelan School Age Children

In July, the HAS Hygiene, Water and Sanitation Company made a very important donation to the El Porvenir de Las Torres Preschool, located in the upper part of La Vega, one of the beneficiary schools of the our food pantry Program. The donation consisted of a tank for the storage of drinking water.

The upper part of La Vega is a very vulnerable parish in Caracas where water is scarce. Water service for homes is only available on Thursdays and Fridays, so the service is lacking during 5 of the 7 days every week.

Due to the importance of fresh water in the preparation of food, the nutritional program has always depended on storage, which was done at school in containers that were not appropriate for such a vital mission, not to mention that it is practically impossible to make proper use of it also for both bathrooms and kitchen.

It is worth noting that although monetary donations are very important, non-monetary donations such as this tank are great alternatives to achieve the objective of maintaining the Program. It is also worth noting that despite the water challenges, the program has been running for 6 years without interruption even during COVID.

Professor Adelis, director of the Preschool, expressed her joy for the donation, expressing her gratitude to HAAS for their valuable contribution: "It is a great help to continue providing uninterrupted food to our children, because many times on Mondays there was no water left, and we had to run to buy two bottles of drinking water”.

For those of us who make this program possible, we understand that our mission is to make the work of educating easier for school administrators as well. They should not be running around looking for food or water for their children, but rather concentrate fully on their children's learning.

El pasado mes de julio, la Compañía HAS, Higiene, Agua y Saneamiento hizo un donativo muy importante para el Preescolar El Porvenir de Las Torres, ubicado en la parte alta de La Vega, uno de los colegios beneficiarios del Programa Una Arepa Para Mi País que llevan la Fundación Pabellón Con Arepa en conjunto con la Fundación Oportunidad y Futuro: Un tanque para el almacenamiento de agua potable.
Y es que en la parte alta de La Vega, una parroquia muy vulnerable de Caracas, el agua escasea, pues se cuenta con el servicio para los hogares solo los días jueves y viernes, razón por la cual se carece del servicio durante 5 de los 7 días de la semana.
Teniendo en cuenta la importancia del agua en la preparación de los alimentos, el programa nutricional siempre dependió del almacenamiento que en el colegio se hacía en pipotes y envases poco apropiados para tal vita misión, sin contar que de esta forma es prácticamente imposible hacer un uso eficiente tanto para baños como para la cocina.
De manera que vale resaltar que los donativos, a través de recursos económicos, aunque son muy importantes, no son la única forma de apoyar en el logro del objetivo de mantener un Programa Nutricional y Educativo como el que se emprendió a través de “Una Arepa Para Mi País” hace 6 años y que no se interrumpido desde entonces.
La profesora Adelis, directora del Preescolar, manifestó su alegría por el donativo manifestando su agradecimiento a HAAS por su valioso aporte: “Es una gran ayuda para seguir brindando de manera ininterrumpida los alimentos a nuestros niños, porque muchas veces los días lunes ya no nos quedaba agua, y teníamos que correr a comprar dos botellones de agua potable”.
Para quienes hacemos posible este programa, entendemos que nuestra misión es hacerle más fácil a los maestros la labor de educar, quienes no deben estar corriendo buscando alimentos o agua para sus niños, si no concentrarse de lleno en el aprendizaje de sus niños.
