Help Feed 800 Venezuelan School Age Children

The Nutritional Program closed 2020 satisfactorily and with a very positive balance.

Despite the pandemic that has affected operations since the beginning of the year, we managed to maintain the nutritional program for the benefit of children, always following the recommendations for food distribution operations in a COVID-19 context adapted to Venezuelan communities. As a result, we were able to continue guaranteeing proper nutrition for children but avoiding any risk of infection at all times.

On the one hand, the children continued to learn because although they did not attend schools, their parents took assignments home when they collected food from school. Likewise, food was prepared following the strictest sanitary biosafety standards.

In this way, the program was able to continue its progress and both the nutrition and the learning process of the children were not at risk at any time.

On the other hand, fortunately, none of the children, neither the mothers, nor the teachers nor the volunteers were infected by Covid. We hope that this positive balance will be maintained during 2021, until the vaccine is effectively tested and distributed in our country.

In December, and following the necessary social distancing, we were able to close the year with a simple Christmas activity with the beneficiary children of the preschool.

In order to respect the biosecurity and social distance recommended by the World Health Organization, the children were summoned in small groups. They were given a delicious typical Venezuelan Christmas meal to take home. Despite the fact that Santa Claus was unable to attend as in years past for obvious reasons inherent to the pandemic, each child was given a beautiful gift thanks to contributions from allies.

Children not only need food to grow and learn healthy but also happy moments. Faced with such a crisis and unemployment (also fueled by a great shortage of fuel, domestic gas and drinking water), the reality of the families of these vulnerable children would not allow many of them to eat an Hallaca or a piece of ham bread (two typical Venezuelan Christmas dishes) in their humble homes, much less receive a gift on Christmas Eve. Luckily for them, those who donate and support this beautiful cause, continue to make possible many beautiful smiles in the children of La Vega.

El Programa Nutricional cerró el año 2020 de manera satisfactoria con un balance muy positivo.

A pesar de la pandemia que nos agobia desde principios de año, logramos mantener el programa nutricional en beneficio de los niños, siguiendo siempre las recomendaciones para operaciones de distribución de alimentos en contexto COVID-19 adaptada a comunidades venezolanas. De esta manera pudimos seguir garantizando la debida nutrición de los niños pero evitanto en todo momento cualquier riesgo de contagio.

Por un lado, los niños siguieron aprendiendo ya que aunque no asistían a sus colegios, sus padres/madres llevaban las asignaciones a sus casas cuando recogian los alimentos en el colegio. Asimismo, loa alimentos se preparaban siguiendo bajo las más estrictas  normas de bioseguridad sanitaria.

De esa forma el programa pudo seguir su marcha y tanto la nutrición como el proceso de aprendizaje de los niños no se vio en riesgo en ningún momento.

Por otra parte, afortunadamente, ninguno de los niños, ni las madres, ni las maestras ni los voluntarios resultó contagiado. Aspiramos que este balance positivo se mantenga durante el 2021, hasta tanto la vacuna sea efectivamente probada y distribuida en nuestro país.

En Diciembre, y siguiendo el distanciamiento social necesario, pudimos cerrar el año con una sencilla actividad navideña con los niños beneficiarios de los preescolares.

Para respetar las normas de bioseguridad y distanciamiento recomendadas por la Organización Mundial de La Salud, se convocaron los niños por grupos reducidos. Se les brindó una rica comida navideña típica venezolana para llevar. A pesar de que Santa Claus no pudo asistir como en años pasados por razones obvias inherentes a la pandemia, se entregó a cada niño un hermoso regalo gracias a la contribuciones de los aliados.

Y es que los niños no sólo necesitan comida para crecer y aprender sanos sino tambien tener momentos felices. Ante tanta crisis y desempleo (potenciados además por una gran escasez de combustible, gas doméstico y agua potable), la realidad de las familias de estos niños vulnerables no permitiria que muchos de ellos pudieran comerse una hallaca ni un trozo de pan de jamón (dos platos Venezolanas tipicos navideños) en sus humildes hogares, mucho menos recibir un regalo en nochebuena. Para suerte de ellos, quienes donan y apoyan esta hermosa causa, siguen haciendo posible muchas sonrisitas bonitas en los niños de La Vega.
