By Liz Mulford | President, Friends of the Four Homes of Mercy
Your gifts have strengthened the families and the skills of the home-bound struggling with severe mental and/or physical challenges.
Families members, meeting at the Homes, have the opportunity to talk with each other as to what others have discovered works best with their challenged one. They also have a safe place to ventilate about their concerns, frustrations and sometimes exhaustion. Meeting together reduces the isolation all too common for families struggling with disabilities.
Staff provide instruction on special techniques of feeding, moving from bed to wheelchair, increasing mental stimulation, games, exercises, and other subjects as requested.
Staff home visits enable the family to receive individual attention, and their loved one to receive competent evaluations as his/her needs change—and suggestions on how to maximize progress. When needed, the Homes provides specialized equipment, such as a walker on wheels, which is better than the family could afford.
Using our wheelchair-equipped van enables us to take some of the homebound out for a picnic, or even just a drive—a huge treat for them.
Affirming the specialness of each person we serve, the staff brings birthday cakes—a delight for the honoree, and the rest of the family.
Thank you for making this possible!
