Dear Friends,
Can you believe it? We’re already in September, with just four months left to wrap up 2024! The days might still be twenty-four hours long, but with so much happening, they feel shorter. I’m sure you’ve felt this rush before too, haven’t you? We couldn’t wait to share with you what has transpired in the past three months in our third report of 2024.
Wrapped up workshops for term 2 in partner schools
It’s incredible to think that we’re in the Term 2 holidays, and by December, learners will have completed another academic year. We’ve successfully wrapped up all nine workshops, endline lesson observations, and surveys with the schools we partnered with in early 2023. Now, we’re focusing on the Inclusive Education Committee meetings, refresher workshops, and awarding certificates to the dedicated teachers who participated in our training when schools reopen mid September. The commitment from both teachers and school administrators has been truly inspiring, motivating us to continue our mission of promoting Inclusive Education, especially for children with learning difficulties and disabilities.
The successful implementation of our ODII in schools in the Buikwe District.
Remember the two schools that joined our ODII blended training program in September 2023? They completed all their training in August 2024, and we couldn’t be more excited. We’ve gained invaluable insights from the teachers’ feedback and our team’s experiences, which have better prepared us for the two new schools we selected in Kitgum District.
Fundraising for the new two schools in Kitgum District
Last August, we raised $110 out of $1,000 which was our set goal from the “More Schools More Laptops” campaign that ran from the 26th to the 31st on our social media pages to fundraise for 2 laptops and 2 small Bluetooth speakers for the two ODII schools in Kitgum district. They will be able to access our training at their convenience in their schools. This will equip their teachers with the knowledge and skills for early identification and how to support children with learning difficulties and disabilities, to reach their full potential. We’re eager to kick-start the workshops in these schools this September. Your donation in cash or in-kind (a laptop) is still welcome.
Another successful Backup On Tour
Our work extends beyond teachers and administrators; we also engage with parents, caregivers, and other professionals. Recently, we held a Backup On Tour workshop on Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and ADHD in the workplace in Gulu City. The overwhelming feedback from participants has us looking forward to more sessions.
We are always grateful for your support of our work promoting inclusive education in Northern Uganda. Your continued encouragement is a driving force behind our milestones. Would you like to chat with us? Sign up via this link to schedule a video call with our team—we’d love to connect with you!
Much love,
The Backup Uganda Team
