This project has been retired. While Makindu Children's Program did not succeed in raising the funding goal on this project, rest assured that we will continue to advocate for the rights of the children in our program. All of the children we serve, especially the girls, are at extreme risk of being victims of crime, due to their orphaned and vulnerable position in society. When they come to us seeking help and support after an assault, Makindu Children's Program will provide them with medical care, counseling, advocacy and protection.
Victims rights, and girls rights in particular, have made great strides in Kenya over the last decade. With help from Makindu Children's Program and a more supportive Kenyan court system, perpetrators and abusers are now being arrested, tried, convicted and jailed. Just a decade ago, a girl child had virtually no chance of the court even hearing her case, let alone receiving justice. Though we have come a long way, we still have a long, long way to go.
Thank you for your interest and support in helping the innocent child victims we serve.
