Help us build the Playground in the Cloud, an inspiring and fun open online platform to build and nurture a community around SOLE. People can share, talk, play, learn together and connect communities all over Colombia, especially people most affected by the armed conflict. We want to change education and empower communities in Colombia with SOLE, invented by TED Prize winner Sugata Mitra. His vision was to build the School in the Cloud, we want to turn it up with our Playground!
Good teachers do not reach the remote places where they are needed the most. According to the National Coordinator of Education for Peace, over 300,000 youth aged 15-24 live in the conflict-affected regions. Of those rural, indigenous and afro-descendant boys and girls, more than half dropped out from primary school; 1 in 5 finished high-school, and 1 in 20 entered some form of higher education. This year we aim to reach with this project 2000+ potential SOLE Ambassadors all over Colombia.
Self-Organized Learning Environments (SOLE) has proven to be a powerful tool to develop autonomy, curiosity, collaboration, critical thinking, tech fluency and generally, to have fun. In the past 4 years, we have witnessed how these skills enable communities to solve their real-life challenges. With an online platform like the Playground in The Cloud, we will reach many more communities, quicker and cheaper. This experience will motivate them to be 21st-century facilitators by using SOLE.
We envision a 5 year-long upscale that will reach different regions of the country, by opening and spreading the Playground in The Cloud to 10,000+ communities and local leaders to set up and facilitate SOLEs across the country. This effect will empower 300,000 people, their families, and communities, to be self-reliant and most importantly, to own their future.
