The after-school tutoring program at the Amaro Tan School is well underway now. Thanks to your support, Roma, Balkan Egyptian, and low-income Albanian students can participate in supplemental classes after school in Albanian, English, and mathematics, as well as advanced computer skills in the new computer lab.
The Amaro Tan School recently surveyed students in sixth through ninth grades to help evaluate the success of the program. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with 97% of students agreeing that teachers in the tutoring sessions effectively help them to overcome their academic challenges, 91% agreeing that afternoon tutoring will help them perform better on state exams, and 94% agreeing that afternoon tutoring will help them be better prepared to succeed in high school and in life.
Says school director Marin Piqoni, “our students have many obstacles in their lives, and the Amaro Tan School is helping to overcome them. We hope that tutoring will help them to help others as well someday.”
This Mother’s Day, why not give the gift of education, in honor of the mothers in your life? When you donate to Help Albanian Roma Youth Succeed in School, you can select “Donate in honor,” and send an electronic or paper card to your mother—just in time for Mother’s Day!
All the best,
Sarah Pita
