Excited to learn

At the Amaro Tan School, in Pogradec, Albania, the children are learning more every day. Thanks to your support, the staff at Amaro Tan has been able to add 4 days a week of after-school Albanian language classes and 4 days a week of secondary-level supplementary math. English is now offered 5 days a week after school, and 40 pupils are participating. IT classes in our new computer lab are offered at both the primary and secondary level, 4 days a week—in addition to the regular classes during the school day.

The staff is delighted to use the precious resource of extra time that you have given through your donation. Math teacher Florenca Turshinka describes working with middle school (6th-9th grade) students after school to help build their confidence, "to improve their skills, challenge themselves, and reach better results in maths. All the participants in the after-school program show great interest and are eager to learn."

Students at Amaro Tan typically come from very poor families, and don't get a lot of help at home when it comes to schoolwork. Quite a few of them don't even speak Albanian at home. Extra help from their teachers now will help to reinforce all that they are learning, and give them a much better chance to succeed in high school and beyond.

We thank you for supporting this program, which is ongoing and will help our students to broaden their horizons, dream big, and help their community. You can continue to support this program here.

All the best,

Sarah Pita
