Support Afghan Kids suffering from Spinal Tuberculosis

According to WHO, the number of tuberculosis cases is increasing in Afghanistan with over 60,000 new cases every year. Out of the estimated 61,000 people who were infected with tuberculosis last year, only 70% were diagnosed and treated. The remaining 20,000 were missed by the health system causing 30 deaths per day. Those most at risk for contracting tuberculosis include women and children, poor and malnourished people, refugees and internally displaced persons and the elderly.

TB is a preventable and curable disease but there are many who cannot afford the treatment and medication. If a child with TB is not treated, he/she will remain disabled throughout his/her entire life. With your help, they will walk again and will live a normal life.

FMIC is a nonprofit hospital located in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is a product of a four-way unique partnership between Government of Afghanistan, Government of France, French International NGO Lachaine Delespoir and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). For the past 15 years, FMIC has been serving Afghans while focusing on quality services, innovation and building capacities in terms of human resources and technology.

FMIC ensures that no patient leaves the hospital untreated due to lack of money. FMIC’s Patient Welfare Program has been in place since the establishment of the hospital and has helped over 600,000 needy patients with services worth over US$ 41 million. For many patients, even a $10 expense is an obstacle to healthcare. Imagine that just a few dollars contributed by you can help save a life. A donation of $10 will pay for an initial visit to a doctor, $15 will pay for one-night stay of a patient in general ward, $65 will pay for one night stay of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit.
