The project will help 200 marginalized Girls in Kasese who are caught in vulnerable conditions characterized by low or no incomes, food insecurity, diseases to acquire requisite apprenticeship, vocational & entrepreneurial competences so as to attain formal or self employment to better their incomes so as to eliminate economic dependence, social discrimination, anti social behavior and improve sustainable livelihoods among them.
In Kasese the total population of women is 356,772 & 20.1% of these are Girls of 15 to 30 years old who are unemployed due to low or no education (UBOS 2014). Due to unemployment most girls take on anti social activities like drug abuse, gambling, prostitution, early marriage as means of survival & this make them susceptible to diseases, abuse and death. Though the government of Uganda has put in place interventions to address this challenge its efforts focus on those with some qualifications.
The Project addresses unemployment challenges which has led to the rise in anti social behavior and poor livelihoods among Girls in Kasese. The 200 marginalized girls will be given a work based learning and training in apprenticeship or vocational skills like Hair dressing & Beautification, Sewing, Designing, Cookery/Baking, Hand Bag & Crafts making. During the learning phase the marginalized girls will acquire requisite skills that will rise the opportunity to secure formal or self employment.
The project will help improve sustainable Livelihoods of 200 marginalized Girls in Kasese through income earned from employment attained as a result of equitable apprenticeship, vocational skills & entrepreneurial competences attained through trainings offered during implementation. At the end of the learning phase, the level of learners' Innovativeness & creativity will have increased leading to self reliance, increase in social participation, end unemployment, anti social behavior & abuse.
