Dear donor,
As part of our mission to promote wellbeing, we are glad to share with you our new strategy to encourage our students to eat healthier. After a survey, we discovered that most of our students didn’t eat enough healthy foods, even on those days where they volunteered at local clinics before attending classes. So taking into consideration their workday they were usually away from home more than 14 hours per day.
By renewing the vending machines’ inventory with products nutritionally recommended by the local education authorities, we want to help them with accessible healthy snacks. There is plenty of data on how an empty stomach affects the students to pay attention during classes.
Students from low-income families have a hard time constructing their careers as health professionals. It is well known that a properly fueled brain is required in order for students to excel as remarkable paramedics and nurses who ensure the best attention.
In order to get closer to the Pan American Health Organization’s recommendation of at least 6 nurses per 100,000 people, we must keep promoting new ways to encourage those who want to become health professionals so they can help our community during emergencies.
From our team and the families of our students, we are thankful for each contribution to improve our health system in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
All the best,
Mexican Red Cross
