The project will improve livelihoods of 90 marginalized & indigenous families through self-sustainable eco-tourism and commercial farming business model by women only in Gardi village of Chitwan, Nepal. These families are deprived, poor and non-mainstreamed in developmental activities by government. By raising goats and farming duck/pig/fish/poultry in a holistic approach, the women group will earn money as well as it will earn money by promoting eco-tourism within the Chitwan National Park.
Despite of having abundant potentialities of eco-tourism & commercial farming, 90 families of Gardi village, which is surrounded by a famous Chitwan National Park, lack of several income generation activities. These indigenous families are very rich in their culture, language, heritage and rituals. Many tourists visit national park and Gardi village, but don't spend overnight there due to lack of comfortable places and foods. All people are dependent on the traditional and insufficient farming.
This project will solve the problem by increasing the income levels through: 1. Self-sustainable eco-tourism (Homestays): welcoming tourists, providing comfortable homestays/ indigenous foods, showing cultural dances/ Tharu villages, providing opportunities to learn Tharu language/culture/heritage/daily works and 2. Pig/Goat/Poultry/Fish/Duck farming: Organically produced foods for the tourists and selling them in the commercial market to earn money.
The long-term impacts will be: 1. Economic impact: will increase the income levels of 90 families by totally replacing the traditional farming with commercial one and through the eco-tourism 2. Local jobs creation: at least 5-8 local jobs will be created 3. Social and Gender Equality: 90 families will be united, project will be led by women only 4. Wildlife conservation: will reduce the conflict between human and wild lives and 5. Food security: enough organic foods/meats produced and consumed.
