OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN STILL A RECCURRING PROBLEM

Out of school children is still a recurring problem in Nigeria as they continue to increase on daily basis due to the rate of poverty in the country. This year because of lack of fund for this project, we were only able to settle 3 kids back to school. They are living with their parent but Women Inspiration Development Center was paying their school fees and giving their parent stipend for their upkeep so that they can stay out of the street permanently. If we are paying school fees alone and their upkeep not taking are of, the children could still be pushed to the street for begging to eat which will bastardize our intervention.

According to UNICEF, One in every five of the world’s out of school children  is in Nigeria. Even though primary education is officially free and compulsory, about 10.5 million of the country’s children aged 5-14 years are not in school. Only 61 percent of 6-11 year-old regularly attend primary school and only 35.6 percent of children aged 36-59 months receive early childhood education. In the north of the country, the picture is even bleaker, with a net attendance rate of 53 percent. Getting out-of-school children back into education poses a massive challenge.

Half of the population of girl children in Nigeria are not in School. This problem is because of economic factor and sociocultural norms that discourages the education of a girl child.

We are hoping that if we are able to get fund this coming year through this campaign, we will be able to create awareness on the needs of the education of our children especially girl children. We will also be able to provide upkeep allowances of many children to keep them in school in the coming year. We want to thank GlobalGiving for what they have been doing to assist grass root NGOs like our own and encourages them to do more in helping us to achieve the goals of our projects.

Wishing all our supporters and donors merry Christmas and prosperous new year!
