Micro-farming among the poor Cape Town

Dear GG Friends,  I am late with this report, apologies. 

We are busier than ever!  Saving and repairing lives and rebuilding sustainable food systems among many many thousands of urban poor.

Our training is in huge demand, as unemployment soars.  We are now training around 1000 new farmers per annum! Up from an average of 300-500 p/a in the recent past. And unemployed young people continue to pour in, in ever greater numbers

Our low cost agri inputs (manure, seed and seedlings) are flying out of our Peopes Garden Centres like never before. People for the first time are arguing fiercely at our gates for more. There is a fiery urgency in the air, in the wider movement which we lead. This is a very good sign, as long as we keep stepping up our supply to meet demand. 

And the Farmers have re launched Harvest of Hope (previously managed by our NGO) and are aggregating and selling many tons of top quality produce to the public, earning good money to support their lives. Harvest of Hope is now 100% Farmer driven, currently supplied by nearly 60 micro farms (home and community gardens all around), with a queue at their door of others wanting to join. 

So, our peaceful Revolution, putting Good Food into stressed families tummies, and Good money in very many pockets, creating renewed hope and all round social and environmental health, is Multiplying apace. 

Our example is still the Leading model countrywide and even Internationally recognized as such by many in the wider Movement of Regenerative Organic farming among the Poor.
