Dear Friend,
I am very glad we started late this spring with educational seminars around heat and sun safety! More than 300 children & moms participated in our March seminars where we taught how to make home oral-rehydration solutions (ORS). This is critically important because slum-dwelling children are more malnourished and therefore, more susceptible to diarrhea illnesses. Add to this the unusually hot weather, poor hygiene conditions, and unavailability of clean drinking water, and it makes a bad situation worse. Dehydration can lead to sever complications, such as seizures, swelling of the brain, kidney failure, shock, coma, and death.
It turned into a scorching summer here in Jaipur, with temperatures above 120F for extended periods of time, and we needed to cancel our outdoor seminars and street clinics to keep our neighbors safe. We have, however, kept the evening hours in our three clinics and are helping those who cannot make it (they send a family member or neighbor).
You can read about individuals we have helped at our website www.savekidstrust.org .
We are getting ready to launch another campaign to build our fourth clinic, which would have been so helpful to the communities in that area. But hopefully, this clinic will be running next summer when the heat is unbearable.
Please look for that ‘New Clinic’ campaign and Thank You for your continued support of our general funding campaigns (primary health and menstruation focused). Our staff and volunteers cheer every time funds come from SKT USA to SKT India. It is a blessing to everyone!
Stay safe this summer!
Kind Regards,
Dr. Sharwan Saini & Staff
