Kawthaung is located in the southernmost region of Myanmar, on the tip of the peninsula, bordering on Thailand. Of the more than 200,000 inhabitants in the district, about 30,000 internally emigrants come from different parts of the state hoping to find work in Kawthaung or Ranong, the first Thai city on the border. In addition, only 35% of the population lives in a city covered by health services, while the remaining 65% of the population lives in rural areas almost uncovered by health care. This population range has no economic opportunity to access the public health service or can not afford the transport costs to reach the closer medical center, several hours far from their houses.
This is why Medacross Mobile Clinic program is so important for this population.
The rainy season in Myanmar is finally over but every year from May to the end of October is even more difficult to reach the isolated villages inside palm oil plantations.
You can get an idea just watching thhese picures!
